What you’ll learn

During the course, participants will learn and practise how to respond when someone:

is unresponsive and not breathing, including the safe use of an AED
is unresponsive but breathing
is having a seizure
is choking
is bleeding, including life-threatening bleeding
requires the use of haemostatic dressings or a tourniquet
is showing signs of shock or internal bleeding
has suffered a burn

Participants will also learn:

how to assess a casualty
when and how to call for further help
accident recording and reporting

The course combines explanation, demonstration and practical skills practice to help participants feel more confident responding to an emergency at work.

Who is this course for?

Emergency First Aid at Work is suitable for staff who may be required to provide first aid in the workplace.

It can be appropriate for many lower-risk working environments, including offices, shops and other workplaces where an employer’s first-aid needs assessment identifies EFAW as an appropriate level of training.

Employers should determine the first-aid provision they require through an appropriate workplace first-aid needs assessment.

Practical, face-to-face training

Training is delivered in person and focuses on practical skills rather than passive learning.

Participants have the opportunity to practise key first-aid techniques, use training equipment and work through realistic scenarios designed to improve confidence and decision-making in an emergency.

On successful completion, candidates receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate valid for 3 years.

Annual refresher training is recommended to help first aiders maintain and update their skills.

Dental or GP practice?

If your team also requires medical emergency and Basic Life Support training, EFAW can be combined with our Medical Emergencies and Basic Life Support training.

This can allow teams to complete both medical emergency training and workplace first-aid training as part of the same training visit.
