First Aid at Work

Our most comprehensive First Aid training for the workplace setting is the 3 day First Aid at Work course. The training gives First Aiders the skills to assist casualties with injuries and common illnesses found in the workplace.

The course combines theory and practical training to give students the knowledge and confidence to deal with real world emergencies. It also meets the required standard to help organisations comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations.

Course Content

The course covers the skills needed to manage life threatening emergencies and also covers the recognition and treatment of common medical conditions and workplace injuries. Skills covered include:

The role and responsibilities of the first aider
Incident Management
Communication and casualty care
Fainting
Bleeding (minor and severe)
Burns and scalds
Eye injuries
Injuries to Bones, muscles and joints
Shock
Choking
Low blood sugar
Asthma
Poisoning
Seizures
Anaphylaxis
Stroke
Chest pains (including heart attack)
Head injuries
Spinal injuries
Unconscious casualty
Resuscitation

Control of catastrophic Bleeding*

*(If required the use of Tourniquets and Haemostatic dressings can be taught on request.)

Assessment

A mix of theory and practical assessment throughout the course.

Certification

On successful completion, candidates will be awarded a certificate that is valid for 3 years. After their certificate has expired, First aiders would usually attend the 2 day FAW Requalification to qualify again.

It is recommended that first aiders complete an Annual refresher course each year to refresh and update their skills.
